Galerie Chapleau is pleased to welcome a new exhibition dedicated to the painter Jacques de Maillé.
On the occasion of the 50e anniversary of his death, the City of Croisic once again welcomes the works of Jacques de Maillé. This time, the exhibition presents the magnificent landscapes of Croisic and the peninsula while evoking the artist's passion for the Navy and liners, without forgetting Brittany.
Watercolor is one of the most difficult disciplines because it does not tolerate any repentance or correction. Jacques de Maillé excels at it and this exhibition will delight enthusiasts of the world of the sea and of Brittany through the eyes of an exceptional artist, little-known during his lifetime.
We thank his daughter Christine de Maillé for trusting us again and for sharing with the public the passion and talent of her father who passed away too soon.

Biography
Jacques de Maillé was born on November 25, 1915. He lived in Batz-sur-Mer (at the time the Bourg de Batz) until the age of 12. These years in Batz are at the origin of his passion for the Ocean and Brittany. Unfortunately very short-sighted, he was never able to realize his dream of joining the National Navy.
He compensated for this frustration through an immense work mainly focused on Brittany, the buildings of the National Navy, liners, cargo ships, sailboats, etc.
He began studying law in Nantes, interrupted by the war. Initially on the front in Rethel, he was then in captivity in a stalag in Germany. Before the conflict worsened, the Germans noticed his talent and, incredible as it was, they had him exhibited. Shortly after, the conditions of captivity were terrible and upon Liberation, his state of health was extremely poor.
After his marriage, he settled in Lyon where his wife lived. Without a diploma, he worked as a decorator (film sets, opera sets, pubs, etc.). Every year he exhibited at the Marine Show in Lyon. He was Honorary President of the Association of Amateur Painters in Lyon and received the first prize in Fine Arts at the age of 58, on his deathbed.
from Lyon. Faithful to Batz, his beloved country, he never failed to return there at least once a year and for nothing in the world would he have given up the invitation to attend the launch of France in the stands.
